The uplifting public art project seeks to capture the vibrancy of the united community and university. Brightly colored fiberglass and cement huskies have been transformed into creative representations of the unique attributes of the DeKalb/Sycamore region. Each huskie was created by local artists with the help of individuals and businesses. Check out the story map below to find details on where to find each Huskie.
The project was started to acknowledge and enhance the bond between NIU and the community after the February 14, 2008 tragedy. The huskies were auctioned off with proceeds going to the Forward, Together Forward Scholarship Fund in honor of the five students who died in the February 14 tragedy. Each huskie is sponsored by local-area businesses and, in total, raised $40,000 for five worthy students to attend Northern Illinois University in honor of the five students whose college journey was tragically cut short.
